Tim Colman graduated from Southampton University with an honours Degree in Engineering, winning the third year engineering prize.  Upon leaving University Tim spent nearly thirty years working for global organisations, living and working both in the United Kingdom and abroad. His initial posting was as the manager of an engineering research and development department but he soon moved into a commercial environment and was rapidly promoted to the position of Export Manager with responsibility for the Asian-Pacific market.

For the last 18 years of his corporate life he operated at Director Level in Swatch Group companies in both Switzerland and the United Kingdom. During his five years working in Switzerland, he was based in a company where the official language was French. Throughout his time with the Swatch Group he travelled the world, running training courses and workshops in a range of subjects – both technical and on general management development issues. His responsibilities included spells managing Swatch Group Divisions in France and Belgium.

In addition to his corporate experience Tim has established, purchased, managed and sold a number of SME’s and is currently an active Director of five companies ranging through engineering, leisure and personnel development.

In 2003 he established his own management consultancy, Timecheck Consulting, specialising in the procurement process and bid writing. Much of his Timecheck work involved the presentation of training courses in Tendering, Bid Writing and Procurement and he has delivered workshops on the “Bidding for Gold” programme, funded by the British Learning and Skills Council and the European Social Fund.
His clients have included UKT&I, Business Link, the Olympic Delivery Authority, Institute of Directors, Regional Development Agencies, Private Companies, Chambers of Commerce, Local Councils, The International Institute for Independent Business, the Federation of Small Businesses and many more.

In 2007 Tim rolled Timecheck Consulting in to another of his businesses, Abacus HR, and now spends much of his time running Abacus Group companies specialising in the legislative side of company management including HR, H&S and payroll.
Tim is married with one stepson and spends several months a year in the South of France where he has recently built a villa. His passion – away from work – is motor sport, and until his recent retirement from active participation, was a successful - International level - rally and racing driver.
